Mobile Dental Assistant

Full-Time Position

The Mobile Dental Assistant’s main purpose is to provide appropriate patient care while working hand in hand with the Mobile Dental Hygienist. They are expected to assist and support the Mobile RDH in all aspects of the Healthy Smiles Program from consent distribution thru case management. They may be expected to provide additional in-clinic chairside services including performing x-rays, setting up rooms, seating patients, charting in the dental record and assisting to ensure patient needs are met in a professional & timely manner.


  • Deliver, pick up, sort and accurately enter dental consent forms.
  • Register patient in DentaSeal and EDR, verify insurance, demographics and guarantor.
  • Maintenance of equipment, replenish supplies, and load and unload as needed for transportation and setup at the school.
  • Foster and nurture established relationships with school districts, their staff, students and parents/guardians to continue to grow the Healthy Smiles Program.
  • Deliver oral health education to improve and maintain patient overall health.
  • Receive and prepare patient for treatment.
  • Chart conditions of suspected decay and disease for treatment by hygienist and referral to a dentist in DentaSeal.
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials, and assist RDH during dental procedures.
  • Perform sterilization and disinfection procedures in compliance with policy and procedures pertaining to mobile and school-based dental providers.
  • Complete necessary forms to be sent home with the child, informing guardian of treatment received.
  • Case management as needed which includes following up with patient’s guardian for those in need of dental care and referral/placement with a dental home.
  • Apply effective communication techniques with a variety of patients, staff, and guardians.
  • Attend internal/external meetings as deemed appropriate by department supervisor and within budget constraints.
  • Attend OSHA training sessions annually and observe policy and procedures as they pertain to OSHA standards and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.
  • Understand insurance guidelines for allowable services and treatment frequency.
  • Adhere to FHLC policies and procedures.
  • Regular and reliable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • During down time and/or non-school days, other duties may consist of in-clinic duties including:
  • Prepare patients for dental care services, sterilize and disinfect instruments, set up instrument trays, prepare materials and assist dentist during dental procedures.
  • Assist in recording medical & dental histories.
  • Expose and develop diagnostic dental x-rays.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and dental operatory cleaning and preparation.  Assure adequate inventory of necessary supplies and instruments are in their proper places in the operatories and other areas of the clinic to support that day’s work.
  • Pour, trim, and polish stone models.
  • Assist dentist in management of medical and dental emergencies.
  • Instruct patients in oral hygiene and plaque control programs and provide postoperative instruction to patient as prescribed by dentist.
  • Record treatment information in patient record.
  • Maintain aseptic techniques.
  • Assist with regular maintenance of dental equipment.
  • Polishes teeth and applies topical fluoride to child’s teeth as prescribed by the dentist, including plaque control techniques.
  • Assist in communicating necessary treatment and fees and in arranging financial agreements with patients.
  • Attend internal/external meetings as deemed appropriate by department supervisor and within budget constraints.
  • Attend OSHA training sessions annually and observes policy and procedures as they pertain to OSHA standards and guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • High School diploma or equivalent required, or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Previous dental experience is not necessary, although completion of a dental assisting program or six months experience is desirable.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver’s license required. Driving record must meet the requirements outlined in our company policy.
  • CPR certification required.
